Storage Area Network

I am not familiar with the “SAN” (Storage Area Network). I have several PCs running Linux and a switch which connects all of them (these form a simple structure of “LAN”).

Could I switch this “LAN” into “SAN” by modification of some configuration? Or do I have to add some additional equipment (such as some special switch) or some additional software (such as specific version of Linux)?

You can build a Linux server as an “iSCSI” box and use an “iSCSI” initiator software program on the hosts.

Keep in mind that it needs a relatively new “kernel” unless you want to hack it a bit. You can use the link below:
